Cedar Point Federal Credit Union will be relocating its Leonardtown office. The Leonardtown Planning & Zoning Commission on Monday gave concept approval for a new branch at the Leonardtown Centre. The building will be located behind the office building at the middle entrance to the center,

The new building will be located between Dr. Patel’s office and the Family Dollar store. Commission member Glen Mattingly expressed concern about pedestrian traffic among the various buildings in the center. The credit union’s representatives agreed to work with the shopping center’s owners to do something about foot traffic flow and bring back their findings when they seek final approval for the project.

The current Cedar Point FSU location is in a renovated house on southbound MD 5. The entrance has no deceleration lane so the possibility of rear-end collisions at that location, due to speeding and inattention, is enhanced. The State Highway Administration is currently looking at the possibility of a center turn lane along that stretch of MD 5.

Cedar Point Federal Credit Union has six locations in St. Mary’s and Calvert counties. The new Leonardtown location will have the same design as their new facility in Charlotte Hall.

According to the web site www.creditunionaccess.com  Cedar Point FCU has 28,953 members and assets of $264 million. The credit union opened in 1945 and has 80 full-time employees and 34 part-time employees. Membership is open to the community.
