School Board Honors Parent/Guardian Volunteers
Leonardtown, MD - 5/11/2012
By Dick Myers
A Park Hall Elementary School volunteer has been chosen as a semi-finalist in the 2012 Maryland Parent Involvement Award Program. Shana Taylor was among a number of parents and guardians honored by the St. Mary’s County Board of Education at their May 9 meeting.
The Maryland Parent Involvement Matters Award program was developed to shine a spotlight on parents and legal guardians who have demonstrated significant involvement in the following areas: communicating, volunteering, learning, collaborating with community, and decision making. This year’s theme, “Choose Your Seat, Get Involved,” illustrates the point that Maryland parents/guardians are involved in a wide range of activities to support their public schools and encourages all parents to get involved whatever way they can.
Additional nominees from St. Mary’s County Public Schools, many of whom were on hand at the board meeting, are:
·Jennifer Buchness of Benjamin Banneker E.S.
·Sharon Williams of Chesapeake Public Charter School
·Ashley Sanders of Green Holly E.S.
·Lomeda Smith of Greenview Knolls E.S.
·Shawn Cavanagh of George Washington Carver E.S.
·Veronica Higgs of Hollywood E.S.
·Joan Myers of Lettie Marshall Dent E.S.
·Darlene Williamson of Leonardtown E.S.
·Karen White of Oakville E.S.
