Calvert School Board Salutes Kelsey Miller
Prince Frederick, MD - 5/12/2012
By Marty Madden
After serving two years as the student member of the Calvert County Board of Education (BOE), Northern High School (NHS) student Kelsey Miller has been term-limited—by graduation. During the BOE’s May 10 meeting, the Yale-bound Miller was presented with a resolution from the five adult members of the school board, who commended the senior for her dedication and achievement.
The secondary school students of Calvert chose Miller to represent them during the 2010 – 2011 and 2011- 2012 school years.
“Her election and re-election to the position is evidence of the high regard in which she is held by the secondary student body,” the resolution stated.
While student members do not have the same franchise as the five adults who are chosen countywide—three from each election district and two at-large—they have been known to weigh in on issues and offer students’ perspectives on educational issues that are tackled by the BOE.
