Fire in Huntingtown Garage Probed
Huntingtown, MD - 5/14/2012
By Marty Madden
The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire in a detached garage in Huntingtown. Investigators believe the blaze, which occurred Sunday, May 13 at 5:38 a.m. at a residence on Hillside Drive, was deliberately set. Authorities report $6,000 damage to a 1996 Honda Accord and the garage. No injuries were reported.
A passing motorist discovered the fire and notified the homeowner and called 911. Seven firefighters from the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in two minutes.
“There were multiple areas of origin, including the engine compartment of a vehicle and a detached garage,” stated Dfm. Dexter Hodges in the report. “The fire was determined to be incendiary.”
No arrests have been made. Anyone who has information that could aid investigators is asked to call 443-550-6820.
