Local Firefighters Compete
Huntingtown, MD - 5/16/2012

On Saturday, May 12, 2012, Hungtingtown VFD sponsored the second annual firefighter Combat Challenge. The event consisted of firefighters competing to complete a firefighter skills related obstacle course consisting of a standpipe rack carry up a series of stairs, a charged fire hose drag, a ladder raise, pulling a roll of hose up to a second story platform, crawling through a tunnel, a dummy drag, and striking an object with a sledge hammer 10 times all while wearing full fire gear. The department had 18 contestants divided up into 4 different age groups. Each age group was competing for a leather fire helmet for 1st place, a flashlight for there gear for 2nd place, and a $50.00 gift certificate for 3rd place. The 3 fastest participants, all with times under 5 minutes were Kyle Colleli in 1st place, Hunter Stewart in 2nd place, and Chris Shirey in 3rd.
