SMR Senior Is 'Outstanding Catholic Youth'

Senior Finlay Cushen from St. Mary’s Ryken High School (SMR) has been chosen “Outstanding Female Catholic Youth” by the Archdiocese of Washington (ADW). This award is presented to a high school senior for being a leader to young people within a Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). Finlay, of Port Tobacco, is a member of Sacred Heart in LaPlata, Charles County.
Finlay was presented with the award on May 9 at the Office of Youth Ministry/Catholic Youth Organization Board of Director’s Awards Banquet held Hyattsville, Md.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and performed in this year’s spring musical, “HONK!”
This fall, Finlay will be pursuing a degree in early childhood education at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
St. Mary's Ryken is a college preparatory high school sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers and works to inspires lives of learning, faith and service in each student. Each year, 99% of graduates go on to college and the Class of 2011 earned almost $13 million in scholarships.
