Blue Crabs Attendance Climbs Up 28% From Last Season
Waldorf, MD - 5/22/2012
One day removed from the biggest weekend of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 2012 season, attendance figures from the team’s first 17 home games are surpassing last season. The Blue Crabs opened the 2012 season on Thursday, April 26th and since then haven’t looked back. The attendance figures keep rising game by game with this past weekend featuring the team’s first sellout of the season as 6,105 fans paraded through the gates on Saturday Night. Overall, the team saw close to 15,000 Blue Crabs fans fill the stands throughout the weekend.
Through the first 17 games of the 2011 season, Regency Furniture Stadium welcomed 46,305 fans. So far through the first 17 games of 2012, the Stadium has already welcomed 59,249 fans; an increase of 12,944 fans overall.
“In November, we established a motto of “The Tide is Rising” for the season. To us, it was a way of verbalizing what we were determined to bring to this organization: progress along with a product that meets every vision that fans had for this franchise,” said Brian Radle, who was appointed the club’s Assistant General Manager back in November.
The new slogan deems true, as it seems the attendance numbers have significantly risen at Regency Furniture Stadium throughout the young season. On average, the club has drawn 3,485 fans per game since Opening Day, while last year drawing 2,723 games through the first 17 games of the season. That is an increase of 762 fans per game.
The Blue Crabs will look to keep the momentum going with their next home stand beginning on Friday, June 1, which will feature Girl Scout Night and Sleepover on the field presented by RE/MAX 100.
June promises to provide many unforgettable experiences and great value. During the day on June 5, the Blue Crabs will be hosting the first ever 9 Innings of Networking at the Stadium which is a collaboration with the Job Match Re-Employment Project and the State of Maryland. The event will be a full day of job training, seminars, hiring companies scouting for employees, and plenty of networking. The event will carry into the game and will feature a Coffee Mug giveaway to the first 1,000 fans courtesy of All-Star Team Services. June 6 will feature the first ever Fan Vs. Food where it’s all-you-can-eat at specific concession stands from 6:00 to 8:00 pm featuring a menu of soft pretzels, hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and popcorn for just $19.00 per person. June 21 has become one of the most anticipated games of the season, as the infamous Cowboy Monkeys will be appearing at Regency Furniture Stadium courtesy of SAIC. The Cowboy Monkeys are professional capuchin monkeys wearing cowboy outfits, riding border collies, herding goats in the outfield. On Wednesday, June 27th all of the teachers in Southern Maryland will be Saved By The Bell, as everybody’s favorite principal, “Mr. Belding” will be coming to Regency Furniture Stadium. The Legends Club will be turned into The Max for “Ballads with Belding” where fans will be able to sing karaoke with Mr. Belding during the game. That evening’s game will also feature Educator Appreciation Night as we look to recognize all of the educators in St. Mary’s, Calvert, and Charles County School Districts.
“The beautiful thing about Minor League Baseball is that you can provide so many experiences, with such great value to go along with the price of admission. That was a huge focus of our front office this winter and it continues to be every day,” Radle said.
