Kevin Rios Inks a Contract As The Latest Signing Of The Blue Crabs

Infielder Kevin Rios has been signed to a contract by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, it was announced today by Manager Patrick Osborn.

Rios was selected by the New York Mets in the 26th round of the 2003 draft.  The Santa Ana, California native played four seasons for New York, climbing up four different levels and getting as high as Class-AA Binghamton.

Rios has spent the last five years in the independent leagues playing with Sussex of the Can-Am League during 2007 and 2008, Joliet of the Northern League during 2009 and 2010, and with Lincoln of the American Association in 2011.  The 31 year old registered his best years as a pro during his 2008 and 2009 campaigns.  In 2009, Rios hit .297 earning himself a spot on the Northern League All-Star team.

Primarily a shortstop but with experience at every infield position, Rios played collegiately at NAIA Concordia University in Irvine, California, where he was an honorable mention All-American.

“Kevin is a veteran infielder who will provide depth at all four infield positions.  I look forward to him contributing in a number of different ways,” said Blue Crabs Manager Patrick Osborn.
