St. Mary’s College of Maryland will host the fifth concert of the fourteenth annual River Concert Series on Friday, July 20, 2012. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and the concert will begin at 8 p.m.

The evening’s program will feature the compositions of Wagner and Debussy, with a guest appearance by pianist Brian Ganz, who will perform Grieg’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor.” A sixteen-woman chorus will accompany the Chesapeake Orchestra in their performance of Debussy’s “Nocturnes.”

Brian Ganz is widely regarded as a leading pianist of his generation. A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Ganz has performed in concert halls from Memphis to Helsinki. He is currently attempting to perform all of Chopin’s approximately 250 works over the course of this decade, a feat which has likely never been achieved by a single pianist.

The River Concert Series is free and open to the public.

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
