St. Mary’s County Commissioner Todd Morgan (R: 4th) has criticized the recent promotion and raises for four St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) administrators.

At the Tuesday, July 17 county commissioners meeting, Morgan noted the ink was hardly dry on the FY 2013 budget approved at the previous commissioner meeting.  “I don’t feel that it is fair in the sense of the game.” He added, “I don’t feel that it is in the spirit of cooperation, openness and transparency.”

Morgan made the comments when the commissioners were told that an appearance by School Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano to certify the FY ’13 budget had been delayed a week.

Last week it was announced that four supervisors would be given title changes and pay increases representing a grade higher at an annual cost of $3,000 to $4,000 in additional pay per person. Martirano said the promotions were made to better reflect each supervisor’s responsibility.

Those receiving promotions to the title of executive director were Scott Smith, Kelly Hall, Dr. Jeff Maher and Theo Cramer.
