The Charles County Commissioners are pleased to announce that Charles County has been selected by the Center for Digital Government as the "most digitally advanced county" for counties nationwide with populations of less than 150,000.

The 2012 Digital Counties Survey award winners were named Monday, July 16, at the National Association of Counties annual conference in Pittsburgh, Pa.  The 2012 Digital Counties Survey examined the cutting edge information and communications technologies used by the Charles County Government and the demonstrated successful outcomes through the strategic use of these technologies.  The County has won an unprecedented first place nine times out of the past 10 years.

To be eligible for the award, a county must be a member of the National Association of Counties (NACo). There are 3,068 county members of NACo, with more than 2,700 in Charles County's population category. Counties are evaluated based on their use of technology-both in terms of operating efficiencies and realizing strategic objectives.

The awards are presented annually by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government.
