Veteran goalie Kip Turner has been named the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season as a result of shutting down the Machine’s offense on Saturday night in Delaware, OH.  Turner earned Bud Light MVP honors for his performance while the Bayhawks (9-2) clinched their spot in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse playoffs in Boston this August.

“Kip has made a tremendous impact to our team,” head coach Dave Cottle exclaimed. “He is an excellent clearer and he has been very solid between the pipes. His greatest attribute this year has been the timing of his saves. He has made great saves at key times.”

The award is Turner’s sixth career Defensive Player of the Week honor and his performance led the Bayhawks to an 11-7 victory over the Ohio Machine on Saturday night. Turner made 16 saves, several of which were spectacular, as the Bayhawks held the Machine to just two goals in the first half and five goals in the second half. In the third quarter he made seven saves while not allowing a goal as the Bayhawks built an 8-4 lead. Turner currently leads the league with a .557 save percentage and 9.98 goals against average.

The Bayhawks return home on Saturday, August 4th to battle their long time rivals the Long Island Lizards. Papa John’s will be giving away thunder sticks at the gates.
