A grand jury returned an indictment on Thursday, July 26 against a Prince George’s County police officer for the following offenses: first degree assault, second-degree assault and misconduct in office.

It is alleged that on Thursday August 4, 2011 at approximately 11:50 p.m. Cpl. Rickey Adey responded to the 6900 block of Walker’s Mill Road in Capital Heights for the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival he observed a large group of individuals running from the scene. Cpl. Adey confronted a 13-year-old who admitted he was attempting to elude police by attempting to climb over a six-foot-high fence. Cpl. Adey pulled the teen from the fence and assaulted him. The teenager sustained minor injuries as the result of the assault.

Cpl. Adey is a ten-year veteran of the department. He was suspended immediately after the state’s attorney informed the department of the findings. A suspension hearing is scheduled for next week during which time the officer’s pat status will be determined.

Ironically just two days ago Adey was one of two P.G. officers heralded as heroes for rescuing seven people and several dogs from a burning building in District Heights.
