Calvert Teen Killed on Route 4
Lothian, MD - 7/30/2012
By Marty Madden
According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, a Calvert County teenager was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday morning, July 28. The single-vehicle accident happened on Route 4 south near Lower Pindell Road in Lothian, a short distance from the Calvert-Anne Arundel line.
A press brief from the Anne Arundel County Police Department stated that law enforcement and fire officials responded to the crash scene at approximately 7:04 a.m.
“Upon arrival first responders located a black 2003 Kawasaki sport bike on its side in the left lane of south Route 4 just north of the intersection of Lower Pindell Road,” the press brief stated. “The operator/owner of the motorcycle was found near the final rest position of the bike.”
The driver was identified as Tyler Ralph Davis, 19, of Dunkirk. The brief stated fire department paramedics pronounced Davis dead at the scene.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that Davis was operating his motorcycle in the left lane of Route 4 south,” the police brief stated. “Davis apparently drove off of the left shoulder of the road and into the grassy median. Once in the median the Kawasaki fell onto its side and began to slide. The motorcycle and its rider traveled 247 feet in the grass median before coming to a final rest.”
A preliminary investigation of the crash determined operator error and possibly excessive speed may have contributed to the accident.
The investigation is being handled by the police department’s Traffic Safety Section.
