Girl Scouts Volunteer for Homeless Humans, Animals
California, MD - 8/7/2012
By Dick Myers
Three scouts from Girl Scout Troop 6996 in Lexington Park did their part Saturday for homeless people and animals. The three girls, along with their mothers, sat out in front of Giant in First Colony to collect food, money and other items for Second Hope Rescue, an animal rescue group, and the Southern Maryland Food Bank.
The girls, Morgan Hempton, Ireland Webb and Abygail Misitin, will receive badges for food drive and animal shelter volunteering for the effort. Ted Boldt of Second Hope Rescue helped the girls load the items for that group, which depends on foster homes for the dogs and cats until they can be adopted.
Later in the day Second Hope Rescue also held a Cornhole Tournament. Jim Cryer of Back Road Inn in Compton graciously donated his establishment for the event which raised $500 for the animals.
