Community Rallies Support for Survivor
Owings, MD - 8/9/2012
By Marty Madden
There is no shortage of help from the Calvert County community for a 12-year-old boy who survived a deadly incident July 31 at his home in Owings. Earlier this week Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans [R] reported the boy, Frank Hayward III “remains in intensive care at Children’s Hospital.” The boy was airlifted to the Washington, DC facility after sustaining lacerations and burns. Members of the Calvert Investigative Team (CIT) believe the boy’s father, Frank Hayward Jr., 32, killed his wife Cynthia, 31 and daughter Natalee, 2, and critically injured Frank III.
“Please pray for his physical and emotional needs at this time,” Evans asked members of the community.
The effort to help the young man on his road to recovery has not only included prayers but simple and elaborate fundraising activities. Two girls living about a mile from where the tragedy occurred started raising money at a lemonade stand. On Friday, Aug. 10 a fundraiser will be held at Anthony’s Bar and Grill in Dunkirk, featuring the Travis Adams Band from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. In addition to live music, the event will include T-shirt sales and a silent auction.
On Sunday, Sept. 30 a “Benefit Run” for Frank Hayward III will be start and end at Vera’s in White Sands. The run, for motorcycles, cars and boats—will include a party afterwards featuring a yet-to-be-announced live band.
Residents may also donate to the Hayward Family Relief Fund at any branch of Sun Trust Bank or mail contributions to 597 Solomons Island Road North, Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
A Facebook page called “Frank Hayward III Benefit Car Show” was started Sunday, Aug. 5. The page contains the latest information on fundraising efforts.
