La Plata, MD - 8/16/2012
By Andy Marquis
Charles County Public Schools Assisstant Superintendent of Human Resources Keith Hettel told the Charles County Board of Education that schools were ready to open. He said the teachers are qualified and there are only four remaining vacancies. Those are expected to be filled before the start of school.
Of the nearly 2,000, only 14 certificates were conditional, meaning that only 14 teachers needed to complete certain qualification requirements.
There are currently 2,041 teachers in the Charles County Public Schools. 138 of the teachers who will start next Monday are new to Charles County Public Schools. There remain four vacancies. Those vacancies are for a physics teacher, a business teacher, a media specialist and a technology education teacher. As far as special education goes, the school system only needs to fill vacancies for one occupational therapist and a speech therapist.
Teachers report next Monday, August 21st, for in-service. Schools open on Monday, August 27th.
