Mobile Home Fire Displaces Occupant
Newburg, MD - 8/17/2012
By Marty Madden
An early morning fire inside a mobile home in Charles County Friday, Aug. 17 resulted in damage to the structure and the displacement of the occupant, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office reported.
According to Dfm. John Nelson, the blaze at the single-story home on Crain Highway in Newburg was reported by the occupant shortly after 6 a.m. Over 30 firefighters from four Charles County volunteer fire departments—Newburg, Bel Alton, Cobb Island and La Plata—and the Naval District Washington Fire Department were dispatched to the blaze and brought it under control in 20 minutes. There were no injuries.
“The fire was determined to be accidental as a result of carelessly discarded smoking materials,” Nelson stated. “The single occupant of the structure was displaced and is being assisted by family.”
The estimated loss is $15,000, Nelson reported.
