On Oct. 1, 2012, new Maryland vehicle laws will take effect that require all motor scooters and mopeds to be titled and insured, while all operators and passengers must wear a motorcycle helmet that meets safety standards set by the US Dept. of Transportation and eye protection, unless the vehicle is equipped with a windscreen.Operators of these vehicles must possess a valid driver’s license or a moped operator’s permit. Minimum vehicle liability insurance must be obtained and operators must carry proof of the insurance with them whenever they are operating the scooter and moped.Titles will be obtained through the Motor Vehicle Administration.When the title is obtained, the vehicle owner will be provided with a decal that must be displayed on the rear of the vehicle. Scooter and moped drivers who violate the new law can expect to be stopped and issued traffic citations or warnings beginning Oct. 1.
DUI & Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - On Aug. 20 at 7:51 pm, Tfc. West responded to a traffic accident on Claggett Rd in Sunderland.Brandi L. Kelley, 28 of Chesapeake Beach, was arrested for DUI.Investigation revealed that Kelley was in possession of drug paraphernalia.She was placed under arrest and incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.
Disorderly Conduct - On Aug. 22 at 8:58 pm, Trooper Oles responded to the Calvert Memorial Hospital emergency room for a disorderly person.Sean D. Hurley, 29 of Lothian, was throwing items and spraying an aerosol can in the reception area of the emergency room.He was arrested and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.
Destruction of Property -On Aug. 23 at 12:57 am, Tfc. Smith responded to the 700 block of Cougar Court in Lusby for a reported destruction of property.Unknown suspect(s) broke the victim’s driver side window.Investigation continues.
Destruction of Property -On Aug. 23 at 6:41 pm, Tfc. Esnes responded to the 900 block of Costley Way in Prince Frederick for a reported destruction of property.Unknown suspect(s) damaged the paint on the victim’s vehicle utilizing a marking device.Investigation continues.
Theft -On Aug. 23 at 6:45 pm, Tfc. Logsdon responded to Greenhouse Place in Huntingtown for a reported theft.The victim reported that after having work performed in the home, money lying on a dresser was found to be missing.Investigation continues.
Burglary -On Aug. 24 at 4:19 pm, Tfc. Logsdon responded to the Calvert High School for a reported theft from a metal storage unit.Unknown suspect(s) removed 67 miscellaneous spools of wire from the container. Investigation continues.
Possession of Oxycodone -On Aug. 24 at 8:51 pm, Tfc. Evans stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Rt. 4 south of Rt. 231 in Prince Frederick.Shelia J. Somerville, 36 of Baltimore, was placed under arrest for driving on a suspended license.She also possessed Oxycodone for which she did not have a prescription.She was incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.
DUI & Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle -On Aug. 25 at 11:06 pm, Tfc. Logsdon stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Rt. 260 in Owings.Joseph K. Oxendine, 34 of Owings, was arrested for DUI.He had taken the vehicle without the owner’s permission and was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.He was incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.
Disorderly Conduct -On Aug. 26 at 12:40 am, Tfc. Esnes responded to the area of Stamper Court for a report of a large loud party.Ronnie L. Wilkins, 40 of Prince Frederick, was found to be yelling profanities in a loud manner and refused to lower his voice after being instructed to do so several times. He was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and was incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.
Possession of Marijuana -On Aug. 26 at 1:44 am, Tfc. Evans while performing a routine patrol check of the Calvert Towne neighborhood in Prince Frederick observed suspicious activity around two vehicles.Lamond C. R. Jones, 26 of Prince Frederick, and Jessica B. Rivers, 18 of Lusby, were found to be in possession of marijuana.They were incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.
