A prominent Calvert County business is in a new location, an event that prompted a well-attended celebration Tuesday, Sept. 11. Medart Galleries has moved from Dunkirk Market Place to the Gateway Business Center on Town Center Boulevard.

Friends, customers, family members and the entire Board of Calvert County Commissioners made their way into the new location to greet the members of the Radosevic family, feast on appetizers, sip wine and marvel at the transformation. According to Teresa Schrodel, Medart’s director, the company now has double the space from its previous location.

During his remarks prior to a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Commissioners’ President Gerald W. “Jerry” Clark [R] called the business “a testament to the arts. This is a family-operated business with a tremendous commitment to Calvert County.”

Prayers and a devotional song were offered by Father Michael King of Jesus the Good Shepherd Church.

“I’m very pleased to have them here as tenants, they’re a good family,” said Skip Gardiner of Gardiner Realty and Development Company, the owners of the Gateway Business Center. The center represents an expansion of the commercial area known as Gateway Shopping Center, which includes Walmart and Giant. “We’ll be working on this area for the next 10 to 15 years,” said Gardiner.

Medart Galleries was founded by William and Anna Maria Radosevic. Their first retail location was opened in 1979 at Andrews Air Force Base. The business relocated to the Bright Center in Owings in 1985 and seven years later moved to Dunkirk. William and Anna Maria are still involved in the business, which is now run by their children, Teresa and Frank.
