The Town of North Beach held its second annual Bay Harvestfest Saturday, Oct. 6. By the time the street festival officially started—high noon—a sizable crowd was traversing Bay Avenue, the boardwalk and pier.

The soulful sound of Uncle Jack Band was a cool contrast to the afternoon humidity. The band Sons of Pirates was also on the bill at the boardwalk pavilion.

Over 30 vendors, some serving up fresh Southern Maryland cuisine, attracted festgoers’ attention. The food vendors had lines of customers.

The pig and duck races that are always a huge attraction at the Calvert County Fair, proved to be a spectator magnet at their 5th Street and Bay Avenue location.

The Bay Harvestfest is a scaled-down spinoff of North Beach’s legendary Bayfest, which was held for over 20 years before being abruptly cancelled in 2010. That street fest was a two-day event held at the end of August. A loss of several vendors prompted town officials to scuttle the 2010 event.
