Early Voting Heavy, Polls Closed on Monday
10/28/2012
By Dick Myers
Lines were long all weekend at the three early voting sites in Southern Maryland: Leonardtown, La Plata and Prince Frederick. Crowds likely came out early for fear that the polls might not remain open for the rest of the week with the approach of Hurricane Sandy. That in fact turned out to be the case as Governor Martin O’Malley closed the polls on Monday because of the storm.
The polls were scheduled to be open for early voting through Thursday, November 1. The Bay Net will inform our readers if they are reopened or the dates extended.
As usual political signs lined the entrance ways into the polling places although some were removed by campaigns on Sunday because of the expended high winds. At the La Plata elections’ office early voting site in Charles County there were no Democratic signs, only signs for Republican candidates Mitt Romney, Dan Bongino and Tony O’Donnell.
