St. Mary’s County residents are invited to explore Lord Baltimore’s colony free of charge on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006. At Historic St. Mary’s City, costumed interpreters in recreated 17th-century settings use hands-on activities to help 21st-century citizens understand what life was like for their 17th-century ancestors. Discover how a business kept accounts before computers and calculators, where families got food before supermarkets, and how sailors knew where they were before GPS. Visit the exhibit “. . . once the Metropolis” to learn about the Museum’s unique archaeological and historical finds- the building blocks that allow us to reconstruct the past. Nature lovers will find over 800-acres of woodland, fields, and shoreline to explore. Four miles of trails offer access to some of Southern Maryland’s most beautiful countryside. Countians are invited to stop at the Admissions Desk in the Visitor Center off Rosecroft Road and show a driver’s license, military i.d., or other identification with a local address for a free pass to the museum and grounds. Immediate family members in the same household will be admitted as well. For more information about the museum, hours of operation, and special events, visit our web site, www.stmaryscity.org, or call 240-895-4990. |
