At 7:24 a.m. Nov. 24, Bay District Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched to a working house fire on North Poteat Court, in San Souci. Units from Hollywood and Seventh District volunteer fire companies were also dispatched. Bay District’s Engine 92 arrived on scene and reported that they had a working house fire with heavy smoke showing. The crew from Engine 92, lead by Sergeant Jack Hare, pulled the red line and attacked the fire located in the living room, reports Fire Captain Jeffrey Bixby. When searching the house for occupants, firefighters discovered a large dog and called in St. Mary’s County Animal Control. The house was not occupied by humans, and shortly after 8 a.m. the St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Office was contacted to help locate the owner. SMECO and the State Fire Marshals Office also arrived on scene, which was cleared by 9:15 a.m. See slideshow below for images from the scene. |
