Driver Who Crashed into Deputy Jailed for DWI

 At 8:37 p.m. Jan. 4, Charles County Sheriff’s Officer S. Hawkins was conducting a traffic stop on Route 210 near Mt. Aventine Road in Indian Head.

 While he was writing a citation in his vehicle, a southbound Chrysler Sebring struck the left front of his cruiser.

 Officer Hawkins was extricated from his cruiser and transported to Ft. Washington Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

 Investigation revealed the driver of the Sebring, Jeffrey Allen Rhine, 32, of Indian Head, was intoxicated.

 Rhine was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, negligent driving and other related traffic violations.

 He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Sgt. S. Walsh investigated.
