Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation into an early morning double fatal on Interstate 95, injuring a trooper and claiming the lives of both drivers.

The deceased drivers have been identified as Shawn Christopher Miles, 21, of the 6400-block of Woodburn Avenue in Elkridge and Gerald Lee Dorsey, Jr., 31, of the 500-block of Dorsey Avenue in Essex, Maryland.

At approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, Maryland State Police received reports of a vehicle traveling southbound on the northbound side of I-95 in Baltimore County north of White Marsh. Trooper Ryan McNeely, 24, a member of the Maryland State Police for three years who is assigned to the JFK Barracks was traveling northbound on I-95 in the same area when he heard the call.  Moments later the crash occurred.

The preliminary investigation indicates that for unknown reasons, Shawn Miles and a passenger were traveling southbound in a 1993 Chevy Blazer on northbound I-95 in lane number one.  Shortly thereafter, at mile marker 71.6, a 2006 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Gerald Dorsey, Jr., was traveling northbound in the same lane and struck head-on.  Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Trying to avoid the crash, TPR McNeely turned left, bounced off the jersey wall and struck the Elantra.  TPR McNeely was flown to Shock Trauma with neck and back injuries.  The passenger from the Blazer was also flown to Shock Trauma with minor injuries.

The passenger of the Chevy Blazer is identified as Edward Patrick Henehan, III, 25, of the 6600-block of Marne Avenue in Baltimore.

Lanes were closed on northbound I95 for approximately two hours while personnel from the State Highway Administration assisted with detours around the crash scene. The Maryland State Police Aviation Command and Baltimore County Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene.

The Maryland State Police CRASH Team and troopers from the JFK Barracks will be conducting a detailed reconstruction of the crash as they continue the investigation.
