The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died in a fatal motor vehicle crash on June 13 as Fidel Herrera-Uribe, 50, of Riverdale.

Herrera-Uribe was a passenger in a 1989 GMC truck being driven by Roamin Lopez-Bravo of Riverdale on Poplar Hill Road near St. Peter’s Church Road in Waldorf about 8:11 a.m.

For reasons still under investigation, Lopez-Bravo, who is believed to be about 20, lost control of the truck on northbound Poplar Hill Road while approaching a curve. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a drainage pipe before coming to rest on its roof in a 4-foot-deep pond.

Two other passengers, Luis Bazquez-Diaz, 38, of Hyattsville, and Rudver Velasquez-Jacob, 19, of Riverdale, were also inside the vehicle.

Three citizens and three Sheriff’s officers rushed into the water and rescued the four occupants from the vehicle. Herrera-Uribe was transported to Southern Maryland Hospital Center where he died of his injuries.

The other three occupants were flown by U.S. Park Police and Maryland State Police helicopters to Prince George’s Hospital Center where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Neither alcohol nor speed appeared to be factors in the crash. Officer R. Williams of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
