Anna Mae Sackie, president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82, recently presented a $500 donation to Sheriff Rex Coffey of Charles County in support of National Night Out.

This year’s National Night Out, the largest single crime-prevention event in Charles County, is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. Neighborhoods participate by hosting fun-filled block parties or by simply leaving their porch lights on. Sheriff Coffey, his officers, McGruff the crime dog and McGruff’s nephew, Scruff, visit participating neighborhoods. Businesses display messages on their marquees, provide giveaway items, hang banners or serve as coloring-contest depots.

For more information about National Night Out, contact Connie Gray at (301) 932-3080.
