Stepping Up

Concerned Team Mom, SMYFL
10/13/2009

My son has been playing football since 2001 at the age of 5. He started playing in the Waldorf league and he and I had a great experience. We moved here and he started playing football in 2005 for St. Mary's league. I soon found out how the parents in this area ran the league and the league let the parents get away with anything. You cannot run a league if you are not in control. So this year 2009 we were excited to hear there was a new league starting up. I signed my boy up, registration and equipment fitting all went smooth. We meet with the head coach and all the other players of the team. We started practice, yes threr were a few things that came up but as a parent I said that SMYFL will work it out, they are going through some hurdles and most of all my son was having fun. The head coach and assistance coaches are doing a wonderful job with the boys. Yes, the scheduling of games has been an issue and somewhat irritating, but all has worked out so far. I see the kids out on the field getting along and working as a team. If the parents that have problems would learn something from their kids there would not be all the conflict. This should be about the kids ONLY! SMYFL needs to get behind their coaches and let these coaches do what yhey do best! Head coaches should have total control of their teams and should be supported 100 percent.Parents need to come and support their kids and their kid's team. This is supposed to be fun for the kids. I look at it this way id a parent is having a problem they can talk to the head coach one on one and figure out a solution to the problem. The head coach and his staff is not your enemy. Most of these coaches are here for the right reason, THE KIDS! I feel when a kid joins a team that is where the kid needs to stay. Teaching a kid about support your fellow players, getting along with one another and when the going gets tough get strong together is a real positive thing for kids. This is not a place where parents are calling the shot and threaten to pull their kids because the parent has a problem HAS ANYONE EVER ASKED THE KIDS HOW THEY FEEL? I see so many teams out at practice and the kids are getting along fine. Complain enough so you can get what you want! NO, solving problems together and working things out without all the fighting will get you farther in life. Teaching kids that being disrespectful and getting what you want like moving a kid to a different team is not very productive for the kids. If parents have a problem and cause problems as far as I am concerned they know where the door is and don't let it hit them in the butt on the way out. I feel if you are not happy which you probably weren't happy in life to begin with, YOU NEED TO GO! Being moved to a different team doesn't solve problems; it just causes more problems for someone else. THEY NEED TO GO! As far as Team Moms there is a place in the league for them, to help the coaching staff with paper work and getting information to the parents and supporting the coaches and the team! Team Moms are here to help, NOT TO BE THE LEADER! ABOUT MR. MONEYMAKER, AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED WITHOUT MR. MONEYMAKER THERE IS NO SMYFL. I FIND MR. MONEYMAKER WELL RESPECTED BY ALL THE PARENTS THAT I HAVE TALKED TO. IF YOU ASK HIM SOMETHING HE WILL HAVE AN ANSWER. HE IS STRAIGHT UP AND HE HAS NO BS WITH HIM. HE SOLVES PROBLEMS THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS A BACKBONE IN THE LEAGUE TO SOLVE. HE IS FOR AND STANDS BEHIND THE COACHES AND THIS IS HOW TO RUN A LEAGUE. I MEAN HOW CAN YOU HAVE A FOOTBALL LEAGUE WITHOUT COACHES. IF YOU LET PARENTS (THAT KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT COACHING),DO WHAT THEY WANT TO DO YOU WILL HAVE NO ORDER AND THIS IS HOW THINGS GET OUT OF CONTROL. MR. MONEYMAKER IS HERE FOR THE RIGHT REASON, THE KIDS! HE HAS NEVER ONCE BEEN HARSH OR RUDE AND I RESPECT HIM FOR STANDING UP TO WHAT IS RIGHT. I ONLY HAVE GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT HIM. MR. MONEYMAKER WORKS TIRELESSLY WITH EVERY FREE MINUTE HE HAS TO HELP BETTER THIS LEAGUE. Thank You A very concerned Team Mom PS. Treat people the way you want to be treated!
