At approximately 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department, Station 3, responded to two-story house fire at the 2100 block of Bell Tree Lane damaging property causing a loss of approximately $2,000, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s report.
The report reads that a sprinkler system functioning in the home, but it did not activate due to the fire being contained to the exterior.
Fifteen firefighters responded taking fifteen minutes to extinguish the blaze.
The report says the fire started on the exterior rear of the house and may have ignited from discarded smoking materials that ignited a pile of debris and dry vegetation.
A passer-by observed a column of black smoking coming from the rear of the house. They stopped and found the pile of debris on fire, next to the house, and used a garden hose to contain the fire until the Fire Department arrived.
There was minimal damage caused to the house, the report read.
