Robert Charles Bennett, Sr, affectionately known as “R.C.”, age 78 of Upper Marlboro, MD, died on July 10, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 11, 1937, in Braddock, PA to Robert Jacob Bennett and Marian Rebecca Cox Bennett.
He received his honorable discharge from the US Air Force in 1958. On March 22, 1957 he married is beloved wife Dorelyn Gayle “Ms. Gayle” Bennett in Savannah, GA. Together they celebrated over 57 wonderful years of marriage and raised five children.
RC enjoyed working and retired in 1997 from GSA in Suitland as a Building Engineer in which he began his employment after retiring in 1982 from Prince Georges County Municipal Government as a Building Supervisor/Engineer.
RC was elected life member of Clinton American Legion Post 259, in which he dedicated 42 years of service. He was a life member Clinton VFW Post 9376 and the Moose Lodge 126.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife “Ms. Gayle”, his Brother Richard “Ski”, his sister Cora Jean “Jeannie” and his parents. He is survived by his brother William “Willie,” of Brandywine, his brother, David and his wife Edna of Claremont, FL., and his sister Martha Guard and her husband George of Jefferson, MD , his children, Bobby Bennett and his wife Carolyn of New Kent, VA, Lea (Lynn) Mindick and her husband David of Hollywood, MD, Russell Bennett and his wife Joanie of Hollywood, MD, Gayle Plumb and her husband Gary of Ashland, VA and Bucky Bennett and his wife Cathy of Huntingtown, MD. He was Papa to 19 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren. We cannot fail to mention the devotion and love he held for his Chihuahua babies, Slimmy& Luna. He is also survived by a host of family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor at the Clinton American Legion Post 259, 9122 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735 on July 24, 2015 at noon.
RC chose to donate his remains for medical education and research.
