Friday, August 3 – First FREE Friday

5 p.m. – 8 p.m. The museum and Drum Point Lighthouse are open and FREE to the public with docents in every gallery. Enjoy 30-minute cruises on the Tennison. Entertainment will be provided by Chris James at 6 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. The Museum Store will be open.

Tuesday, August 7; Thursday, August 9; and Wednesday, August 15 – Sea Squirts

10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Theme is Marsh Detective! FREE drop-in program for children 18-months to 3 years and their caregivers. Limited space available.

Friday, August 10 – George Thorogood and the Destroyers

7:30 p.m. The Waterside Music Series presents George Thorogood and the Destroyers with special guest, Cowboy Mouth. Hits include: “Who Do You Love?,” “I Drink Alone,” “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” “Move It On Over,” “Get A Haircut,” and the anthemic “Bad To The Bone.” Tickets are $31 – $69 (additional fees apply) and are available at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com or by calling 1-800-787-9454. Sunday, August 12 – Dee of St. Mary’s Public Sail

2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sail aboard the Dee and experience the Patuxent River like never before! The boat leaves from the museum dock. Fee is $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for children 5 – 12. No children under 5 please.  Preregistration required; call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.

Tuesday, August 14 – Thursday, August 16 – Build Your Own Coroplast Boat Camp

9 a.m. – 3 p.m. For children entering grades 7 – 9. Exercise STEM skills and build a canoe out of recycled corrugated plastic. Lessons on boating safety and canoe maneuvering will prepare the campers for further adventures. Fee is $60 members/$75 nonmembers. Tuesday, August 14 – The Exhilaration of Otters Day Camp

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  For children entering grades 4 – 5. Spend the day with the resident river otters and learn all about them. Explore otter adaptations to the local habitat and find out how river otters compare to otters around the world. Investigate how otters communicate, get a behind-the-scenes tour of the otter habitat, and create a special treat for the otters that will give them an outlet for their naturally playful temperaments. Wednesday, August 15 – What Floats Your Boat? Day Camp

9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Children entering grades 1 – 3 will enjoy a nautical day at the museum captaining their own toy boat! Participants will splash, dash, and craft their way through a creative day of outdoor water play. Bring a bag lunch. Fee: $25 members/$30 nonmembers. Thursday, August 16 – Catch of the Day Camp

9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Children entering grades 4 – 5 are welcome! Research local fish species, their anatomy, and behavior, explore local water ways, and learn about the importance of Solomons, past and present. Visit the historic J.C. Lore & Sons Oyster House, salt marsh, and other local sites. Practice using dip, seine, and cast nets, as well as oyster nippers to survey native species. Learn the Japanese art of gyotaku (“fish printing”) and create a one-of-a-kind piece of art to take home. Bring a bag lunch.

Friday, August 17 – Jr. Paleontologist for a Day

9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Children entering grades 6 – 8 can become a junior paleontologist for the day. Hunt for fossil shark teeth, whale bones, as well as the shells of ancient snails and clams on a local beach. Work with our professional paleontologists to uncover the mysteries of these ancient animals and the environments in which they live. Learn collecting techniques and how to properly preserve your specimens. Get a special behind-the-scenes look at CMM’s amazing fossil collection. Participants should bring a bag lunch. Saturday, August 18 – Fossil Field Experience

Thursday, August 23 – Brad Paisley Performs Live with Special Guest Dan Tyminski

7:30 p.m.  The Waterside Music Series presents country music star, Brad Paisley live in concert at the PNC Waterside Pavilion. Hits include: “Remind Me,” “Mud on the Tires,” “Whiskey Lullaby,” “She’s Everything,” “When I Get Where I’m Going,” “I’m Gonna Miss Her,” and “This is Country Music.”  Opening the show is special guest, Dan Tyminski.
