Barry Shields Cramp, 85, of Waldorf, MD passed away on Oct. 16, 2021 at George Washington University Hospital of acute leukemia. He was born on July 25, 1936 in Bridgeport, CT. He was the son of the late Walter Cramp and Muriel Stanfield Cramp.
Barry grew up in Princeton, NJ and later went on to college at Colgate University in NY and law school at George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he received his Juris Doctorate Degree. Barry worked many jobs to pay for his education. After graduating from law school, he worked a short time as an attorney in a private practice in Takoma Park, MD. He later went on to work 30 years for the Prince Georges County Government as Chief Zoning/Hearing Examiner and Administrative Law Judge in Upper Marlboro, MD.
Barry married Lucille Moore in 1963 and they had two wonderful sons, James and Lloyd Cramp. In 1981 Barry met his second wife and the love of his life, Roberta “Bobbie” Cramp. They were married in 1985. Barry later went on to adopt Karyn Taylor and was so happy to have a daughter. Barry and Bobbie enjoyed 36 years of marriage. They were blessed to have many years together and spent half the year in Maryland and the other half in Hawaii for 20 years. Barry always had the “aloha” spirit.
Barry enjoyed running and ran almost every day. He entered numerous 5K’s and 10K’s in Maryland and Hawaii. He was speed walking two weeks prior to his passing. Barry was also an avid gardener and enjoyed putting puzzles together. He loved spending time with his family; especially his two grandchildren Katie and Brendan.
Barry had a strong faith and was a member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Waldorf, MD. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta “Bobbie” Cramp of Waldorf, MD, his sons James Cramp and wife Lynne of Hughesville, MD, Lloyd Cramp of Hughesville, MD, daughter Karyn Taylor of Reno, NV, his brother Thomas Cramp of Florida, his sisters, Mary “Mally” Petit of Lancaster, CA, Joan Mason of Amherst, MA and his two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother David Cramp of NJ.
Services will be private and held at a later date in Hawaii.
