WALDORF, MD. — The Blue Crabs beat the New Britain Bees by the final of 6-3 on Sunday to complete their first sweep of the season. Starting Pitcher Brian Grening had a strong outing, tossing seven innings, allowing just four hits and no earned runs while striking out five.
The Bees scored first when Jonathan Roof reached first with one out on a fielder’s choice play, followed by Jon Griffon who drew a walk. Jake McGuiggan hit a hard ground ball that was misplayed by Gary Brown at second base allowing one run to score, despite a close throw to the plate. Nick Murphy double down the left field line to score two more runs and give the Bees a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning Gustavo Molina led off with a single, Zach Wilson walked, and Jamar Walton homered over the fence in left-center field to tie the game at three. Alfredo Marte followed up with a solo shot over the mini monster in left field to give the Blue Crabs a 4-3 lead.
Southern Maryland tacked on two more in the fourth. Gary Brown led off the inning with a walk, stole second, and reached third on the next play. Bryant Nelson singled to right field to score brown, and Michael Snyder singled to left to score Nelson and give the Blue Crabs a 6-3 advantage.
The game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning after a rain delay. The Blue Crabs will travel to Long Island to play three games against the Ducks before returning to Regency Furniture Stadium on Friday August 26th. The first pitch is set for 6:35 P.M.
