Prince Frederick, MD – The Calvert County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday, Jan. 29 at appoint Inez Claggett to the county’s Board of Education (BOE). Claggett will complete the unexpired term of Kelly McConkey, who was elected county commissioner last November. McConkey made the motion to appoint Claggett. “I’ve known this lady a long time,” said McConkey, who added she wanted to see an appointee who would have “the best interest of the kids.”
Claggett will represent the Third Election District on the five-member board. Claggett, who was in the commissioners’ hearing room when the vote was taken, pledged to work “collaboratively” with the other BOE members.
in her application for appointment to the open seat, Claggett stated, “I will work to ensure I have a positive impact on the work being conducted by fellow board members and the superintendent to establish Calvert County Public Schools as the number one school system in the State of Maryland.”
Claggett is currently employed as a administrative specialist with Prince George’s County Government. Prior to that she worked five years in fiscal administration with the Prince George’s County Board of Education. She is a graduate of the University of Delaware and holds a master of science degree in accounting and financial management from the University of Maryland College Park. She has been an Owings resident for nearly 20 years.
