PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – On April 1, 2021, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Bill Rector facilitated a Public Safety Expo for the Leadership Southern Maryland (LSM) Class of 2021 at the Harriet E. Brown Community Center in Prince Frederick, MD.
Students were welcomed by several Calvert County public safety representatives, the class received a brief on 911 call center operations and training practices. Next, they got up close and personal with several fire apparatus and watched a variety of demonstrations including a vehicle extrication. During the lunch break, emergency personnel were on hand for a Q&A session discussing a wide range of topics like human trafficking and Calvert County’s mobile crisis team initiative.
The afternoon portion of the day kicked off with the Tri-County Sheriffs Panel featuring Assistant Sheriff Dave McDowell (Calvert), Sheriff Troy Berry (Charles), and Sheriff Tim Cameron (St. Mary’s). Afterward, the class watched several police demonstrations including K9 and drone teams in action. They finished out the day with a visit from MSP Trooper 2, getting an in-depth look at the helicopter and its personnel’s mission and capabilities.
