Valentine’s Day 2012 will always be remembered in the annals of Calvert County Government as the day a county commissioner showed everyone that politicians do indeed have souls. Commissioner Steven R. Weems [R] used his commissioner’s report time to sing a few lines of “My Funny Valentine” and recite a romantic 19th century poem.
Three ladies who were in the hearing room—Department of Community Resources Director Maureen Hoffman, Department of Planning and Zoning Deputy Director Mary Beth Cook and Carolyn Anderson of Chesapeake Beach—received one rose each from Weems, who was on bended knee.
