At about 10:54 p.m. on March 18 three fire departments responded to Sidewinder Lane in Lusby for the report of a house fire, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

The owner, Celecia Purvey, discovered the fire that started outside the home near the stairs. Solomons, Bay District and St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Departments responded.

Investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was a discarded cigarette that was put in a trash container near the exterior stairs.

It took 30 firefighters about 10 minutes to control the fire that caused $20,000 worth of damage.

The family is currently not able to stay in the home due to damage. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
