At 5 p.m. March 27, TFC J. Linger of the Leonardtown trooper barrack observed a vehicle traveling on Route 235 at Mt. Zion Church Road, Mechanicsville, and saw the driver not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver was identified as Frederick William Nau, 60, of Capitol Heights. During conversation with Nau, he advised that he had a bayonet knife under the driver’s seat.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. The bayonet was recovered. There were also several loose pieces of “crack” cocaine observed on the driver’s seat.

Nau was arrested and charged with Possession of a Concealed Deadly Weapon and Possession of Cocaine. He was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and held pending a bail review.
