Prince Frederick, MD – If all goes according to plan, hotel guests and morning commuters could be enjoying coffee and donuts in central Calvert County. Local business leaders confirm there are plans to locate a Dunkin’ Donuts inside a Prince Frederick hotel.
Included in the list of pending projects expected to be reviewed in the coming months by the Calvert County Planning Commission is one called Dunkin’ Donuts at Holiday Inn Express.
Calvert County Chamber of Commerce CEO Bill Chambers told The BayNet that it is his understanding that what is being planned is locating the donut shop in the existing hotel. The shop would be open to the public.
“Dunkin’ is franchising in existing properties,” said Chambers.
“Expansion in lodging continues to be a focus for our brands and we continue to seek the right franchisees to expand our presence in hotels around the country,” Dunkin’ Brands Director of Non-Traditional Development Chris Burr stated in a story post by FierceRetail last summer when the donut behemoth announced the opening of five in-hotel restaurants in the country. One of those locations was in Williamsburg, VA.
The donut and coffee shop within a hotel would total 4,508 square feet. The multi-story hotel is located on Merrimac Court in Prince Frederick and is easily accessible for Route 2/4 travelers. Chambers said he believes commuters northbound on Route 2/4 would find the location an ideal morning stop. “I hope it happens,” he said.
Dunkin’ Donuts was founded in 1950 and is based in Canton, MA. There is currently a Dunkin’ Donuts location in Lusby.
Calls to the hotel owner and agent handling the project had not been returned as this story was being filed. A request for comment from Dunkin’s corporate headquarters has also not received a response yet.
