FIRE MARSHAL UPDATE: The fire involved a two-story, single family dwelling which was occupied by 3 persons at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be the ignition of dried vegetation from a wildlife nest adjacent to the vent from the oil fired furnace. The smoke alarms in the home had reportedly been removed during on-going renovations and not reinstalled. All occupants escaped without injury.

64 Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire in 45 minutes. The accidental fire originated in the furnace room and estimated $175,000 in structure loss and $25,000 in personal property damages.

WALDORF, Md. – On December 7, 2020, at approximately 11:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a dwelling fire at 12593 Sub-Station Road in Waldorf.

Crews arrived to find the two-story home fully engulfed. All occupants of the home are reported safe with no injuries. Red Cross has been notified.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal has been called to the scene to investigating the fire.  Continue to follow for more updates once the report is released.
