Newburg, MD – Charles County firefighters responded to a boat fire Saturday afternoon, Aug. 20 at a local marina, state officials reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze aboard a 1991 28-foot Carver boat was reported shortly after 2 p.m.
“Nearby boaters at the Aqualand Marina observed smoke coming from the vessel, which was docked to a pier, and called 911,” a fire marshal’s report stated. “The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire, which was inside the galley area.”
No injuries were reported. Damage to the vessel is estimated at $10,000. The owner of the boat was not identified.
Ten firefighters were dispatched to the marina, which is off Orland Park Road in Newburg. The crews had the blaze under control in 20 minutes.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone who has information about the fire which could aid investigators is asked to call the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office at 443-550-6832.
