Westminster, MD — The Office of the Fire Marshall s investigating after a hand grenade turned up near a home in Westminster.
Around 3 p.m. on Friday, a neighbor spotted the hand grenade while was located outside of a home.
The Westminster Police Department, Westminster Volunteer Fire Company, the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Northeast Regional Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), all turned up to assist the State Fire Marshal’s Bomb Squad unit.
Fortunately, tests performed on the hand grenade showed it to be inert (free from explosives that could cause injury).
It’s not known who the hand grenade belonged to or how it ended up on the property.
