Multi-use Indoor Sports Complex planned for St. Charles, MD
St. Charles, MD – The Multi-Use Indoor Sports Complex will offer year-round indoor facility options for training and tournaments at the local, national and international levels. In addition, there will be accommodations for business, cultural, and community-based events.
The SMISC will be suitable for practicing and hosting multiple sporting and recreational tournaments including but not limited to indoor soccer, basketball, baseball, football, tennis, martial arts, volleyball, swimming, and track & field. The SMISC will offer a modern food court and social area with multiple food cuisine and retail options. Armature Athletic Union (AAU) POC for the Southern Maryland region, Mr. Kevin Dade, stated “This indoor complex is what we have been waiting for … opportunities to host AAU basketball tournaments which will result in teams in the area and surrounding areas to get exposure on the higher-level platform.”
Dr. William Drakeford (Coach Will), CEO of the SMISP and a pillar in the Southern Maryland community says “I am excited for what this indoor sports complex will bring the young athletes and community at large”. Coach Will has led a number of youth sports teams to League and State Championships. As a scholar and University Professor, Coach Will is more importantly interested in devolving youth to be productive members of society. Coach Will’s childhood friend and former Major League Baseball player (N.Y. Yankees, Chicago Cubs), Alex Arias, believes “The Indoor Sports Complex is a wonderful opportunity … Its presence will have a positive impact on the lives of our youth.”
The SMISC is expected to generate multiple employment opportunities that will have a direct positive impact in the Southern Maryland region and surrounding areas. “In addition to providing economic activity, this indoor complex can also serve as a beacon for area youth that will align them with discipline, structure, and a connection to locally and nationally recognized amateur and professional athletes who are great role model” says Marcus Brownrigg (MPA, President Obama, My Brother’s Keeper Task Force).
The facility is expected to be open in St. Charles in mid-2017 and is currently excepting request for expression of interest for naming rights and advertisers.
