Investigators are probing an arson fire that caused significant damage to a Waldorf townhouse. The fire early Friday morning caused $150,000 damage to the home on Hatteras Court in the Holly Station development. Damage is also estimated at $25,000 to the contents. Additionally, three other occupied homes incurred smoke damage and the families are being relocated by the housing complex.
According to Deputy Fire Marshal John Nelson, “The cause of the fire was determined to be incendiary by suspect(s) setting a fire inside the house. No one was at the residence at the time it was first discovered by neighbors.”
The fire was reported at 3:47 a.m. and 55 volunteers responded from the Waldorf, La Plata, Bel Alton, Accokeek, Brandywine, Clinton, Bryans Road, Marlboro and Hughesville fire departments. It took 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
Anyone with information about the fire is requested to contact the Southern Region Office of the Maryland State Fiore Marshal’s Office at 443-550-6833.
