Leonardtown, MD – The Patuxent Partnership and St. Mary’s County Public Schools partnered to offer Summer Aerospace Camps for elementary and secondary students. Techventures was held at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center during the weeks of July 15-18 and July 23-26.
The camp provided opportunities for students to participate in hands-on, minds-on activities in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Students explored topics such as Aeronautics, Earth Science, Engineering, Rocketry, Space Citizenship, and Space Science through classroom activities.
Over the course of the first week, students received hands-on experience building drones, robotics, and planes.
During the second week of Techventures, students learned about space and space citizenship by establishing their own planetary colonies. They explored Newton’s Three Laws, then applied them to the development and marketing of a toy designed to be played with in space and studied the basics of computer coding.
As a special treat, a helicopter flown by Maryland State Troopers dropped by to visit.
