Westlake High School honored Juneteenth in high style in June 2007 with an African-American Heritage Celebration that included line dancing and music.

This year’s celebration is Sunday, June 21, from noon to dark at the intersection of state Route 235 and Tulagi Place in Lexington Park. Join the fun and celebrate our country’s African-American heritage and it’s emancipation of slavery. There will be food, fun, entertainment and history for all to enjoy.

Juneteenth is the celebration of the date, June 19, 1865, when the last of the slaves in the recently reunited United States were given their unequivocal freedom in Galveston, Texas.
