Today is the last day citizens of St. Mary’s county can legally gamble on electronic bingo machines.

According to the ban that goes into effect Tuesday, machine owners and operators could face criminal charges if their machines are not unplugged at the stroke of midnight.

“They have until 11:59 p.m. to do business,” said St. Mary’s Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron, in an interview with the Washington Post. “My expectation is that the machines will be out of operation and out of St. Mary’s County on July 1.”
