LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park man stopped during a welfare check is accused of driving on a suspended license before police said a bag containing suspected crack cocaine and paraphernalia was found, according to charging documents.
James Daniel Seifert, 33, of Lexington Park, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He also was cited for driving on a suspended license.
A deputy responded on May 10, 2026, to a home on Midway Drive in Lexington Park for a welfare check. Police said a female subject was believed to be in danger involving Seifert.
The deputy was initially unable to locate the woman. Shortly afterward, police said the deputy saw Seifert operating a vehicle with a female passenger near the residence and conducted a traffic stop on Great Mills Road near Midway Drive.
According to charging documents, the deputy knew Seifert’s Maryland driver’s license was suspended through prior law enforcement contacts and knew Seifert had previously been stopped three times for driving after the suspension date of Feb. 23, 2026.
Police said Seifert was ordered out of the vehicle and placed under arrest for driving while suspended. He was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
While another officer remained at the scene, the passenger provided police with a black bag and said it belonged to Seifert, according to the report. Police said the bag contained multiple burnt stems, a spoon and suspected CDS paraphernalia commonly used for ingesting crack cocaine.
Deputies also found three suspected crack cocaine rocks inside the bag, according to charging documents.
Court records show Seifert was given a $2,500 unsecured personal bond on May 10, 2026.
A hearing is set for July 9, 2026, at St. Mary’s District Court.
Under Maryland law, the listed charges carry up to one year of incarceration and up to $5,500 in fines if Seifert is convicted and sentenced to the maximum consecutive terms.
