LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park-area traffic stop led to misdemeanor charges after authorities reported finding an unopened Suboxone film in a woman’s wallet during processing at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

Angelina Marie Mitchell, 42, was arrested May 18, 2026, after a traffic stop in front of Checkers on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park.

Charging documents state the stop involved a 2008 black Chevrolet Tahoe bearing Maryland registration after an alleged traffic violation.

During the stop, Mitchell became argumentative and hostile, refused to provide a valid address, and was seen moving around inside the vehicle while searching through several belongings, according to the charging documents.

Authorities ordered Mitchell out of the vehicle for a free-air sniff, but she refused multiple verbal commands to step out. She was removed from the vehicle and arrested for obstructing and hindering.

Mitchell was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, where a correctional officer searched her wallet and found one unopened RMO Suboxone sublingual film, described in court documents as a Schedule III narcotic.

Mitchell is charged with possession of contraband in a place of confinement and obstructing and hindering.

Court records show Mitchell was released on recognizance on May 18, 2026.

A trial is scheduled for June 23, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.

Under Maryland law, possession of contraband in a place of confinement carries up to three years in prison and/or a $1,000 fine. Obstructing and hindering is a common law misdemeanor in Maryland.
